Think about this: Have you ever been faced with the opportunity to show mercy to someone who doesn’t deserve it the slightest bit? Or to forgive someone that doesn’t deserve your forgiveness? When someone wrongs you in any way, how quick are you to forgive? I can tell you that I’m a very forgiving person for the most part. But even with that being so, there are just some things that seem too hard to look past, and there are some things that make showing mercy feel like the hardest thing in the world to do.
But that’s what Jesus did. Jesus Christ, a man who healed the sick, was beaten beyond recognition and spit on. Jesus Christ, a man who was pierced for our transgressions and iniquities. Jesus Christ, a man who endured the cruelest and most barbaric form of punishment. Jesus Christ, a man who endured the distance…for us.
I often wonder, how could a perfect man, the Son of God, the King of Kings, lay down His life for little ole’ me…and call me A FRIEND too?! I don’t deserve that! But the truth is, none of us deserve it and none of us could ever earn it, but there is nothing we could ever do to take that precious gift away. Because Love won when Jesus said “It Is Finished!”: the kindest, most selfless, most powerful and most liberating words that have ever been said.
Today we remember that we are saved not by what we do, but by what Jesus Christ did for us. I’m thankful everyday for His never-ending love, despite how I fall short. He did what no other man would do and I am eternally grateful for that ultimate sacrifice.
Happy Good Friday Yall!!
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13❤️
